Background

Hida Hachimoto's love of dueling was inspired at an early age. While other Crab students were embracing their destiny of manning the wall, destroying Oni or other foul denizens of the Shadowlands, young Gonsho's head was being filled with stories of steel, blood, and honor. His grandfather, having been wounded enough to where he would be more detrimental than useful in dying on the wall, had found himself with time on his hands, and a grandchild to rear. Hida Tsuyosa had been what the Crab had called "polite", but what other clans would call "tolerable". This caused him to be selected to be sent to other clans to solicit support, and in traveling beyond the borders of the Crab, opened his eyes to how others perceived the Crab, and how they dealt with matters. A typical insult to a Crab would be dealt with harshly, quickly, and firmly, but as Tsuyosa was shown, the art of the blade meant something else entirely.

Regaling Gonsho with the art and precision of Crane and Scorpion duelests alike, Tsuyosa set him down a path that would lead him to where he is today. Recalling his ancestor Hida Hachimoto, who had fostered a distinct dueling style, upon his gempukku, Gonsho took his name, and swore that not only would he become a duelist himself, he would seek to found a style that would bring attention to the Crab, and register a place amongst the dueling pantheon's of the empire.
