Background

Hiruma Daisuke is a tall, handsome, but serious crab warrior, known for his quiet, thoughtful approach to duty. Some suspect that he has demons from his time serving on the wall that haunt him, but he works hard to maintain his on. Daisuke is the veteran of three military offensives - the Crab/Crane War, the War to put down the peasant uprising, and the recent Ivory Kingdom invasion. Despite the brutal skirmishes he fought against the Crane, he maintains excellent relations with a number of members of that Clan and recently took Doji Anaa, a beautiful Crane courtier as his wife. Doji Anaa lives in Daisuke's home in Otosan Uchi, a gift for his efforts in negotiations with the newly formed Kaeru, Yotsu, and Tsi minor clans. As part of his marriage negotiations, Daisuke plans to train with the Daidoji Iron Warriors after he has finished his studies with the Hiruma Bushi School. He has many friends among the Crane, especially the Daidoji, and looks forward to learning more of their martial prowess.

Daisuke is known to have single-handedly slain a powerful Maho Tsukai in the fight against the peasants and his unit destroyed the commander of the peasant army. In the war against the Ivory Kingdoms, Daisuke lead one of the most prominent groups, and single-handedly slew the Rajah. All of his company survived the assault on the Ivory Kingdoms, bringing back great glory for their families, clans, and the Empress.

Despite his extensive military achievements, Daisuke is not an aggressive bushi. He believes in weighing the pros and cons of situations, using violence as a last resort, only when more diplomatic solutions have failed. As an emerald magistrate in training, he has studied under the tutelage of Doji Oharu, earning great renown for his skill in investigation and knowledge of legal matters. His focus on personal honor is uncommon among the crab and he has a reputation for politeness and thoughtfulness that is surprising considering his upbringing. Nevertheless, he was raised in Crab lands, and enjoys sake, games of wrestling, and storytelling as much as the next Crab.

Daisuke was recently appointed to the position of Imperial Huntmaster, granting him the right to organize and hold official hunting events during the empress' court. As one of the empire's foremost hunters and trackers, his skills have saved many an expedition, both in the empire and in the dark lands to the south.

Daisuke is a regular presence in imperial and winter courts, serving his clan without personal ambition. He has successfully negotiated numerous trade deals with other clans, assisted in cementing peace with the Crane, helped continually reinforce the Crab's alliance with the Mantis, was instrumental in the acquisition of an obsidian shrine in Yasuki Yashiki, and many other courtly accomplishments.

For some, Daisuke is a walking mascot for the honor of the Crab Clan. Noble and fashionable in appearance, he was gifted with both a Kaiu blade and Kaiu armor due to his exemplary service to the late Hiruma Yabu. Hida O'Ushi herself granted Daisuke a the Sake Cup of Hida Atsuhige, a nemuranai of great "renown." He bears crystal and silver daggers, gifts for his exemplary performance at the Winter Court at Shiro Moto. His Kaiu Blade is adorned with a jade tsuba, a gift from Kaiu taka, and a crystal netsuke of mysterious origins.

The only direction for Daisuke in the empire is up. While he sits in a precarious position as a supporter of the Emerald Champion, it is clear that he puts his duty to family, clan, and empire above personal needs and ambitions. When his provincial Daimyo was slain, Daisuke was promoted to service under Hiruma Yoshi, the regent of the Hiruma family. It is rumored that he has performed special missions on behalf of Hida O'Ushi herself, the Crab Clan Champion, and that he has a special relationship with the champion's husband, Cavalry general Hida Yasamura. While Daisuke is discrete in his political dealings, some whisper that he bears a grudge against the Imperial Regent Hantei Okucheo for the regent's part in the brutal death of Hiruma Yabu.
