"Not bad, but you've still got a long way to go," comments the large, older man gazing upon a nicely crafted suit of light armor.

"Not bad? It's perfect!" exclaims a younger man. "Or are we playing another game of Sadane?"

"Hrmph. Saying such only proves how much further you have to go." says the older man, without shifting his gaze from the suit of armor.

"Bah, you just don't want to admit that not only am I the best student you've ever had, but I'm just as good as you," responds the young student.

The old sensei chuckles a little. "Oh-ho, are you now? You know, by the time I was your age I had already set out into the Empire to learn the secrets behind the greatest weapons ever forged. Are you saying you already know those secrets?"

The young man's confidence falters slightly, "Have you not taught them to me?"

The old sensei sighs disappointedly. "You are not yet ready to learn those techniques. The fact that you don't realize that only proves my point."

"I see." The young student ponders for a moment. "Well, if you won't teach me, then it seems my only option is to learn them on my own. I shall set out in the morning."

A worried expression crosses the old sensei's face. "Are you certain? The Empire can be an unforgiving place, especially for ronin like us."

The student's voice regains its former confidence, "Of course. I am certain I can handle myself."

"I see," says the old man, shaking his head. "I will not stop you. I can only wish you luck."

The student bows slightly before walking towards the door. "I will return when I have learned the secrets to being the greatest craftsman in the Empire."

The old man smiles slightly. "No. You shall return when you understand how much you still have to learn."

As he walks out the door, the student responds without looking back, "We shall see."

Several long moments pass after the student leaves. The sensei remains behind rubbing his brow. "I pray his travels will teach him some humility, for I have failed to do so."
