Sifu has spent little time in the lands of his direct lord. After his gempukku however, he was invited to take his Oath of Loyalty in the presence of Bayushi Hotaka, as were all the other graduates who were to abide in Nezuban Province.
It was there that Sifu saw the joy that could come from painting. Hotaka's pieces were hardly great works of art, but that was not why the old man painted. That realization encouraged Sifu to lift a brush not to bring Fame or Glory to his name or his Clan, but to enable him to look at the world through a new perspective.
He has worked on improving his skill since that day, but he is still little more than a talented amateur.
