We all walk many paths.

Background

The son of two Togashi monks, Takumi's young life was spent in the High House of Light studying with other young members of the Order. He studied the Tao, practiced kaze-do, but struggled constantly with his lessons. The koan of the Togashi sensei did not seem to enlighten the young boy. His attempts at meditation were doomed to failure, not even the serenity of the Togashi could make him focus. It was thought he would be a failure, until a visiting Mirumoto sensei instructed his class. In Niten, the young Togashi found the clarity his parents thought impossible.

Sent to Shiro Mirumoto with the visiting sensei, the young Togashi took to the lessons of the bushi. He lost himself in his readings of Mirumoto's Niten, seeing in it an uncomplicated worldview that contrasted strongly with the more esoteric Tao of Shinsei. It was a pholosphy he could grasp as easily and steadily as the daisho of the samurai he was becoming.

As he grew and studied within the school, he made a handwritten copy of Niten. In the process of doing so, he gained an understanding of what his parents and the Togashi order tried to teach him when he was younger. Niten was not more correct than the Tao, any more than a wakizashi was more of a sword than the katana. At his gempukku he took the name Takumi, and dedicated himself to perfecting the art of Niten.

Perhaps, one day, that will provide the wisdom that he could not find when he was younger.

Hobbies

Takumi rarely leaves Shiro Mirumoto. His lord, Mirumoto Kabe, sends the young Dragon out on assignments out of a desire for him to spread the stories of the Niten masters. Takumi has studied many, if not all, of the available texts on Niten. He can recount the sagas of every Niten master, from Mirumoto and his son to lesser known swordsmen who climbed the mountains in search of the perfect technique. Kabe himself is reported to enjoy Takumi's detailed legends of even obscure masters.

When not on an assignment or entertaining his lord, Takumi spends his time in meditation. He practices kata for several hours a day, the movements of Niten serving to center himself on the tasks he faces. He spends much time in the libraries of Shiro Mirumoto studying historical and philosophical texts on the way of the sword. Takumi seeks to combine these, to display that the wisdom of the Tao and the wisdom of Niten are one and the same. It is a truth he feels, but lacks the understanding to express.
