Miya Genpaku, Imperial Chancellor:

A younger cousin of the deceased Emperor, Genpaku is one of only a handful of Hantei in history to choose to join the Miya family.

He is a noted patron of the arts, and promoted the finer aspects of samurai culture in his position as leader of the Imperial Court. An extremely talented painter and poet himself, Genpaku has made it clear that he sees the arts as a contribution of the samurai caste as important as the defense they provide – an attitude held in common with his allies in the Crane Clan.

With the Emperor unable to be present, the role of the Chancellor is to serve as the leader of the Imperial Court, and Genpaku ensures that the clans can meet in peace to discuss the future of the Empire (with Imperial oversight, of course).

His symbol on the Regency Council is the Sakura, the cherry blossom that represents, among other things, hope, beauty, and transience.
