Background

The Andrew line claims to date back to the those who followed the Moto into Merenae during the long Journey.. Lady Andrew the First was born in Rokugan well after the Return, but took her name in response to her horror at learning that the Unicorn arrived to late to stop the incident at White Stag.

She swore that she and all her descendants would forever seek out and maintain knowledge of Thrane and Merenae so that Rokugan might have someone prepared against their return. She and all the first born of her line would bare the Merenae name 'Andrew' as an eternal reminder of their task.

Andrew X took the name reluctantly, seeing little value in the mission of the line and regarding the tradition as somewhat disgraceful and more then a little silly. So it was that his Daughter, Andrew XI was expected to be the last.

And perhaps she would have been... but a Samurai does not easy defy their ancestor's wishes.

So it is that one among Andrew XII's stranger quirks is that he spends many long nights studying gaijin language and technology under the tutelage of the ghost of his long dead 'Gran-gran' Lady Shinjo Andrew I.

Personality

Andrew XII is fixated on luck, and takes some of the Unicorn's superstitions surrounding the concept perhaps a little to close to heart.

Growing up in Haisho Province, he's been playing Fortunes and Winds since he was old enough to hold a dice cup and takes every opportunity to test his skill. He's also made an eager study of omens and the art of divination.

He also holds himself to an incredibly high standard of personal Honor, particularly the virtue of compassion. He has sacrificed much for others, and treats every defeated foe with respect and mercy. He's entirely incapable of lying but, if the cause is just, he sometimes presents the facts in certain lights that some might regard as deceptive.

That said, his understanding of Rectitude is nothing short of pathetic. He wears a 'lucky' Koku on a leather strap around his neck for all to see...
